ATV Riding Gear - Always Bank On It

If you want to make your riding a safe one then you should always bank on wearing ATV riding gear. The riding gear of ATV is made to offer better protection while you are riding and also provide more comfortable dressing. However, some people avoid wearing proper riding gear while on their ATVs but that only means asking for problems for you. The reasons for which you should wear proper ATV riding gear are that firstly they would protect you against the mud, dust, tree branches and secondly they would protect you from injury if you fall by accident from your ATV. The riding gears that are must when you are on your ATV are:

Helmets: It is extremely important to wear a helmet while you are on your ATV. This is because it can become a matter of life and death for you. Most people used to complain of the weight of the helmet and therefore many companies has started making helmets which are light weight and are properly vented so that no one feels hot. Stay away from cheap helmets and also when buying the helmets look out for the sticker of the DOT providing it the approval for its standard.

Goggles: Always buy the goggles with plastic frame and a foam perimeter so that it keeps the dust and the sand away by acting as an air filter. Take a good look at the frame of the goggles before you buy it and also at the foam perimeter. If you can, then try out the goggles before buying it.

Riding boots: Make sure that you are buying ATV specific boots and not any other type of boots while shopping for the ATV riding gear. ATV riding boots normally have good cleats at the bottom of the boots so that they can walk properly in muddy and slippery grounds. Thus the boots should be made from a combination of leather and plastic and have plastic, Velcro or metal buckles.

Riding gloves: The ATV riding gloves are usually light weight, vented and have extra padding so that they can provide extra protection in the palm and at the back of the hands and the fingers.

The Proven Health Benefits of Riding an ATV or Off-Road Motorcycle

Good news! The "first ever comprehensive probe of the fitness and health benefits of all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and off-road motorcycle (ORM) recreational riding" proves riding is as good as it feels.

The study

Conducted over several years by the York University Faculty of Health, co-supported by the Government of Nova Scotia and 3 riding associations, the study began with a meticulous countrywide survey to determine the 'typical' rider.

That was the entire first phase of this huge experiment.

Then researchers observed 128 riders, divided into 6 groups: 3 age classifications, male and female. After modifying these riders' equipment, they could measure physical effects: heart rate; oxygen consumption; muscle fatigue and exertion, etc.

The findings

Riding an off-road vehicle requires genuine and serious physical effort. According to Canadian government fitness standards, it should positively affect your health.

While riding, riders' use of oxygen increased by 3.5 to 6 times their level at rest. That's 600% more! And according to standards set by the American College of Sports Medicine, that constitutes moderately intense physical activity.

That same moderate intensity taxes the heart and fatigues the muscles. How much? About the same amount as those other individual sports you take at your own pace, like skiing, golf or climbing.

A typical ATV ride was 2-3 hours; ORM was 1-2 hours. The amount of work required in the upper body and arms, if practiced regularly, was enough to increase muscle and skeletal fitness. And how regularly did they need to ride to begin realizing that increase? Just once or twice a week!

The biggie

Researchers also noticed the emotional high that fit people always talk about: "enhanced quality of life and stress reduction". This surprised no riders.
